“Too many make-believe Black belts.” – GrandMaster Ik Mu Kang

“Black Belts are White Belts Who Never Quit.”

“You never fail in competition – You win or you learn”. – Carlos Gracie Sr.

“True strength is not always shown through victory. Stand up, try again, display strength of heart” – Rickson Gracie

Our program is based in the traditional Korean martial art founded by Gen. Choi Hong Hi through Grand Masters Ik Mu Kang,  Bu Kwang Park and Park Young Don. The skills and techniques are the exact same as taught to the ROK Army All Stars of S. Korea. They are the most dynamic hand to hand striking techniques and defenses available today.

Established and based on the legacy, technique and skills of Gracie family. It is founded on the concept that a smaller person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger, heavier opponent by using technique, leverage, taking the fight to the ground, applying joint locks and chokeholds to defeat the opponent.

We build strong character, perseverance, focus, honor,  determination and respect. The skills are taught with great attention to detail and safety by our Certified Instructors. We help your child develop and achieve their life’s goals while learning valuable self defense skills.

Women’s self defense training principles are critical to your safety. Avoid, escape, and control your situation. If you must engage, learn to exploit the attackers weaknesses. Learn practical skills, build awareness and confidence in your ability to neutralize an attack against you.

Private seminars are available for your office or group by appointment.  CALL 281-579-2675!

The Advanced Program is built on high-level techniques and drills that shape the students game flow through the development of precision, speed and reaction time as well as transitions between one technique and another.

We recommend you arrive 10 minutes before schedule, so we can get you fitted in your uniform and get you signed in as a trial member. When lining up to begin practice, you’ll notice the instructor has a precise curriculum plan for the class. The class warm-up routine is always similar so you know exactly what to expect. After warm-up time, the instructor will introduce one or more techniques. You will be given time to practice those techniques and ask questions. You may do some simple drills to help with your muscle memory of the techniques. Beginner and advanced classes diverge from here. Beginner classes will normally have fundamentals technical challenges working with a partner. Advance students will do this but also begin to conduct live sparring (TaeKwon-Do) or rolling (BJJ) with their partners.

You will find strong support from your fellow students and be made to feel welcome. Our philosophy is that we cannot get better without our training partners. You will learn quickly that everyone is welcome because everyone helps their fellow students. By the end of class, you may be physically tired but mentally exhilarated.  This is the start of building better overall health, strength and fitness. Once you have finished the class, we provide you the opportunity to ask any questions with one of our program directors as well an explanation of the class programs we offer.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art designed to work with the principles of leverage and technique instead of brutal force and strength. The main focus of BJJ is on the ground grappling. This is the most important and often the most neglected area of martial arts and MMA. It is a fact that 90% of all fights end up in clinch and eventually on the ground. BJJ gives you the necessary tools to fully protect yourself in the most common type of street confrontation. We always encourage students to walk away from a fight if you can, but we believe the combination of skills we teach gives you the opportunity to defend yourself effectively against an aggressor.

To excel, individuals need to have a strong set of values and a solid character that give them the perseverance to achieve their goals. BJJ in a positive and supportive setting such as that found at United Martial Arts Katy creates an environment that allows them to experience and understand core values like focus, discipline, persistence, cooperation, and respect needed for a child to mature towards a real-life champion. The outcome of continued childhood practice of martial arts goes far beyond the accomplishments on the mats. The discipline and excellence demanded by our instructors often carries over to the child’s behavior at home and at school.

United Martial Arts Katy’s Tae Kwon Do program specializes in the traditional Korean martial art of Tae Kwon Do. Our training incorporates self defense techniques for children 4+up. We have beginner Tae Kwon Do lessons for kids as well as intermediate and advanced classes.

Many families, and Moms and Dads join their kids as they find it is a great way to keep a close relationship and enhance their own health and fitness in an exciting, new way.

We have proudly served the Katy, Houston, Bellaire, Champions and Memorial areas since 1981 with the best in martial arts instruction. Founded on the principles of teaching excellence, personal attention, and tradition, we provide your kids with the most complete and effective methods to reach thier full potential. They will gain Self-confidence, Self-control, Self-discipline, Self-esteem and Self defense. We offer much more than kicking and punching.  We are the best Tae Kwon Do school in the Katy-Houston Texas area.

Can a student learn more and learn faster? Is it beneficial to have one-on-one time with my instructor?
Your progress is a consequence of how hard and how smart you work. Group classes here at United Martial Arts Katy, are the best-proven way to teach Jiu-Jitsu, TKD, etc., since the diversity of training partners creates different challenges and allows students to improve more quickly. However, private classes are definitely an essential complement that no serious student should do without. The individual attention and approach that a 1-hour session with one of our instructors provides leads to significant improvement in a student’s skills. It is highly recommended that all students take at least one private lesson per month to review techniques and address specific challenges in his or her training.

PRIVATE SESSIONS CAN BE SCHEDULED WITH ANY OF OUR INSTRUCTORS FOR THE FOLLOWING CLASSES: Tae Kwon Do, BJJ and Wrestling. Your private classes here at United Martial Arts Katy will be specifically designed to fit your needs and goals. To get started contact the school’s staff and explain that you’d like to take private classes. We’ll set an appointment with an available instructor so he or she can evaluate and build a program for you. There are many package options available.

Since first opening a part-time schedule in 2018, United Martial Arts Katy students have already established that they are high caliber competitors in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and train at one of the best gyms in Katy, Texas. They have accomplished significant wins at tournaments against more established BJJ gyms. Our classes are designed for a wide range of ages and ability levels, from beginners to black belts.

United Martial Arts Katy added Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to its martial arts offerings in 2018. The first instructor was Gracie Barra Black belt and IBJJF Masters World Champion Patrick Cox. Teen/ Adult TKD is designed for ages 12+. The pace is a little quicker than kids class with more advanced technique taught. Teens /Adults process and store information quicker and retain it easier than kids so we focus on precision striking, footwork and strategies for personal self defense and/or competition. All classes taught by Certified 7th dan Black belt Master Christopher J. Santarose.

After approximately 4-6 months of participation (depending upon your individual attendance) in the fundamentals classes, what is next on the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey?

While the Fundamentals Program focuses on the building blocks and basic principles of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ( BJJ ), the Advanced Program is built on high-level techniques and drills that start shaping the students game flow through the development of reflexes, speed and reaction time as well as transitions between one technique and another.

After a few months in the United Advanced Program students typically experience a deeper involvement in United’s philosophy, a stronger bond with training partners as well as more discipline and commitment to healthy habits that keep them in good shape.

In Tae Kwon Do we expect students to advance according to age, attentiveness and effort to progress through belt levels. Most students may attend Advanced classes by the time they reach blue belt (approx. 1 yr. 2 mo.) The advanced program strives to add more skills to an already accomplished student. Footwork, evasive and counter-attacking skills are accelerated. Combination kicking, spinning and jumping techniques are added along with additional hand striking techniques.

The Advanced BJJ Program is based on a defined class structure and curriculum that take a broad and open-minded approach, incorporating techniques from different grappling styles like wrestling, judo, sambo, and, of course, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. We offer many variations of classes within the ‘Advanced’ Program all of which compliment your game and provide a different stimulating learning environment: Advanced Gi BJJ, No-Gi classes, Competition/Open Mat classes and Private classes.

When practice is more important than your next belt, you have truly become a United Martial Arts Katy student.
